1.Yunlar was born and raised in Port Titan, capital city of Shemar. Born into slavery, Yunlar possesses little knowledge of his ancestry. Before her death, Yunlar’s mother told him that her people came from across the sea to the east. But for generations, they have been bought and sold in the Shemarian slave markets. Yunlar’s mother was impregnated by her master. She died when the boy was 7 years old.
Although not larger, Yunlar was always stronger than boys his own age. As he grew, he learned to fight to survive and take care of himself. His talents did not go unnoticed by his masters. When Yunlar killed another slave with his bare hands at the age of 12, he was removed from his master’s household and sent to the town of Southplain to be trained as a gladiator.
For a decade, Yunlar trained and fought as a gladiator in the famous Stadium in Southplain. He became so well known that recently he has been brought to the town of New Greyhawk to help train the Knightly Order of the Platinum Legion in hand-to-hand combat.
2.Khor Galmaw was born and raised in the Red Eye Gnoll Tribe of the Valendil Forest. But ever since he can remember, Khor was not like other gnolls. His rebellious nature has always been evident and he has been punished over and over for it. Khor dared question the tribal hierarchy, its decisions, and its ways. He constantly asked too many questions and thwarted long-held and unquestioned tribal customs and beliefs. It was only Khor’s relentless fighting skills, despite his smaller stature, that kept him alive and useful to the Red Eye Tribe.
Over a year ago, Khor was dispatched with a band of warriors to the human town of New Greyhawk where they were to attack a holy site known as The Monastery that overlooks the town. It was said that the Red Eye Tribe was blessed. Indeed it was chosen by the Gnoll God Yeenoghu to undertake a most important mission. And so, Khor traveled with his band and attacked The Monastery. But once inside, Khor failed. He hesitated and refrained from killing the monks. His hesitation cost him because he was captured. Perhaps he wanted to be captured because the other gnolls had seen his failure and he would be killed when he returned home.
Khor was beaten by his human capturers, tortured for information, and thrown into the dungeons of Baervan Castle. His guards now taunt him that the Shemarian Crown and the Party of the Pendant has taken vengeance against his people and the Red Eye Tribe has been defeated and scattered to the winds….
3.Amad Vanto was born and raised in the mountain town of Dragonspeak on the northern shores of Shemar. His father was a trapper and his mother died in childbirth. Amad learned tracking, hunting, and wilderness skills from his father. But rather than hunting animals, Amad preferred to hunt humans. He became a bounty hunter, journeying through the settlements of Shemar seeking wanted posters and the rewards they offered.
Recently, Amad arrived at New Greyhawk to see what the town had to offer.
4.Rolando Arrabal was born and raised in the town of New Greyhawk in Shemar. For generations, the Arrabals have served the Shemarian Crown and the national faith—the Gods of War and Magic—through membership in the Knightly Order of the Platinum Legion. Rolando entered tutelage in the Order when he was 10 years old. Based in Castle Baervan (home to the Dukes of Baervan), the boy was trained in mounted combat and religion.
Rolando has been tested on the battlefield when the Demon Lord of Gnolls Yeenoghu sent an army of demons through a Gate to Shemar. Rolando fought with the Platinum Legion at the Battle of the Dwarven Mountains in northwestern Shemar where the Demon army was defeated and scattered. Rolando’s father, Elros, fell in this battle. Rolando inherited his father’s armour, shield, and sword.
5.Dagmar Diomedes was born and raised in the town of New Greyhawk in Shemar. His lineage goes back to the founding of the island of Shemar four centuries ago. It also goes back to one of the founders of the Knightly Order of the Platinum Legion. But Yartuth’s ancestor was a traitor who turned against his King and his Faith. As a result, the family has spent generations seeking to make amends.
For generations, the Diomedes have served the Shemarian Crown and the national faith—the Gods of War and Magic—through membership in the Platinum Legion. Yartuth entered tutelage in the Order when he was 10 years old. Based in Castle Baervan (home to the Dukes of Baervan), the boy was trained in mounted combat and religion. Yartuth has been tested on the battlefield when the Demon Lord of Gnolls Yeenoghu sent an army of demons through a Gate to Shemar. He fought with the Platinum Legion at the Battle of the Dwarven Mountains in northwestern Shemar where the Demon army was defeated and scattered.
6.Dakoles Demetria was born and raised in the town of Berronar in Shemar. His father was a merchant who gained the favour of the local lord, the Count of Berronar, who allowed his son entry into the esteemed Knightly Order of the Lightning of Zeus. At the age of 10 years old, Dacoles entered tutelage in the Order based out of Castle Berronar. Here, he was trained in mounted combat and religion (Greek).
Dacoles has been tested on the battlefield when the Demon Lord of Gnolls Yeenoghu sent an army of demons through a Gate to Shemar. He fought with the Lightning of Zeus at the Battle of the Dwarven Mountains in northwestern Shemar where the Demon army was defeated and scattered.
Recently, Dacoles has been dispatched to New Greyhawk where he has been participating in joint military manoeuvers with his Order’s rival—The Platinum Legion.
7.Elyn Aldran was born and raised in the city of Alquandola, capital of the Kanon of Aqualonde and the Anoraranian Elves. He was trained as a holy warrior. Elyn has accompanied an Elven trade delegation to Shemar and is serving as an Honor Guard. He has traveled with the delegation to the mountain town of New Greyhawk.
8.Bered Straka was born and raised in Hollickshore in Shemar. He is the son of local fisherfolk who have made their livings off the banks of the River Bryn that flows from the Jagged Edge and Razorback Mountains. As a boy, however, Bered was never satisfied by the life of an ordinary fisherman. He performed the chores of his family but his head was always in the clouds, dreaming of adventure and one day gaining entry into the famous mercenary band—the Party of the Pendant. But dreams are one thing and reality is another.
Bered abandoned his family at the age of 11 years old. He traveled westward to the mountain pass and the town of New Greyhawk where he sought entry into the Shemarian Wizard Tower—La Mirada del Sur “The Tower of the South”. But he did not have the money to gain entry. Instead, Bered worked as a wizard’s apprentice in the Tower. Quick of mind, he taught himself to read. In his spare time, he pieced together what he learned of magic as an apprentice. For a period of time, he was even apprentice for Leandro Costales, member of the Party of the Pendant and cousin to the Queen. To make ends meet, Bered also served as a squire to the Knights of the Platinum Legion based in New Greyhawk.
By the time he was 21 years old, Bered’s odd mixture of magical and martial training turned him into a battlemage. Recognizing his unique talents (but not viewing him as a rightful member), La Mirada del Sur and the Platinum Legion offered him positions as affiliates in both institutions.
Bered has been tested on the battlefield when the Demon Lord of Gnolls Yeenoghu sent an army of demons through a Gate to Shemar. He fought with the Platinum Legion at the Battle of the Dwarven Mountains in northwestern Shemar where the Demon army was defeated and scattered.
9.Elwin Salvorro was born and raised in the city of Tigone on the southeastern coasts of Shemar. His parents were poor and died of sickness when he was an infant. Elwin spent several years in orphanages but his rebellious nature led him to run away and live on the streets of the port city. Elwin worked on ships that plied the trade routes of southern Shemar, from Port Titan in the east to Port Augusto in the west. He fell in with privateers (pirates) which put him at odds with the Shemarian law and he spent many months in prisons and jails.
Elwin, dubbed “the Snake” for his cunning and ruthless nature, learned how to fight…and kill. He became known for getting himself out of precarious situations.
Recently, Elwin was captured on the seas by the Shemarian authorities and taken to face justice in New Greyhawk. In return for completely selling out his comrades, he has once again been given pardon and only recently released.
10.Cristabella Menora was born and raised in the town of Westmarshland in the Wildlands of Shemar. The port on the coasts of western Shemar is known to be a rough and tumble den for pirates and thieves. But Cristabella was well protected because her father was known in those parts as “the Mask”, head of the Dripping Talisman, a notorious crime organization with its “fingers” in almost every corner of the Island. The young girl revelled in her father’s exploits, in the shadowy world in which he moved, in the family that that organization provided her, and in the power that it all gave her. She grew into a beautiful and intelligent woman, and she learned to use her talents to her advantage. And she learned to kill. And to care less. “Bella”, as she became known, was a power within the Dripping Talisman.
Recently, Bella has travelled to New Greyhawk incognito to take care of some business that one of her comrades (now deceased) failed to finish…properly.
11.Ellzill Avtarez was born in The Lion’s Den, a castle in Alexandria in central Shemar. She was raised, however, in The Centurion, the Royal Palace of the Shemarian Royal Family and the Seat of Queen Azyra, “the Lioness of the South”. Ellzill is one of the younger children of the Baronet of Alexandria. At birth, as prescribed by The Faith, the infant girl was handed over to the Order of the Black Orchid, an all-female bodyguard of Shemarian ninjas sworn to protect the life of the Shemarian monarch.
Recently, the Black Orchid has secretly made her way into New Greyhawk in order to gather intelligence on an issue of importance to the Crown.
12.Ku-karo (no last name) was born in the Zinculu tribe on Native Island in western Shemar. His father was an orc believed to be from the Vile Rune tribe in the Blackburn Forest. His mother was from the Zinculu tribe (one of the indigenous peoples of Shemar). Because he was half-orc, the child was taken from his mother at birth and left on the edges of the settlement to be devoured by wild animals. He was found by an outcast medicine woman, however, and raised in the woods. She named him “Ku-karo” (“gift” in the Zinculu language). When the boy was 8 years old, the old woman died. He left the only home he had known and eventually made his way to the town of Westmarshland on the mainland. On the streets of the rough town of thieves and pirates, the boy was recruited by a local gang. As he entered manhood, his impressive size and strength made him perfect for the role of enforcer. He was trained to kill. Ku-karo became an assassin in the Dripping Talisman.
Recently, Ku-karo has traveled to New Greyhawk with a fellow guild-member to undertake some “business”.
13.Delgar Kato was born and raised in the town of Shemarnia, the oldest settlement on the island of Shemar. Delgar traces his lineage back to Kato—a member of the Party of the Pendant, founder of the Golden Gauntlet, and Count of Shemarnia. With such an illustrious family line, Delgar was raised in affluence. His father is a minor aristocrat with lands and an estate.
Delgar grew up in a large family as the youngest of nine children. With no lands or title to inherit, at the age of 8 years old he was sent to a local guild called the Iron Claw. This guild fronts as a training school for diplomats, translators, and intelligence officers for the Shemarian Crown. But behind the scenes, it remains what it has been since it was founded four centuries ago: an assassin’s guild. But the Iron Claw is distinct in that it maintains its traditions and training of ninjitsu brought by its founders from the Far East. While the art has evolved into its own distinctive Shemarian form over the centuries, the members still call themselves “ninja”.
Recently, Delgar has been dispatched to the mountain town of New Greyhawk where he has just completed an intelligence-gathering operation on a particular entity…
14.Shrall Teeno was born in the southern coastal town of Blackwood in Shemar but raised in the Golden Gauntlet Monastery in the mountain town of Candlekeep. Shrall’s parents were killed when the boy was an infant during a raid by Hobgoblins from the Marrow Suckers Tribe and he was taken to the Golden Gauntlet to be raised by the Monks. Here he learned the Greek Faith (patron Apollo) but also the ways of the ascetic. Shrall became a personal favourite of Master Iaz of the Golden Gauntlet.
Recently, has has traveled to New Greyhawk to negotiate for supplies for his Monastery.
15.Viela Milvaris was born and raised in New Greyhawk, a town in the mountain pass of central Shemar. Her father was a tanner and her mother a maid in the local tavern. Viela’s home was in the poor and overcrowded ward of the town known as “the Minch” that she shared with her parents and nine siblings. There would little to distinguish Viela from the other peasants of New Greyhawk if not for that one summer day when she was 16 years old.
It was on that day, when Viela was hiking to her favourite spot up the mountain south of New Greyhawk (that had become known to locals as The White Plume in honour of the sacred site to the Gods of War and Magic in Old Greyhawk), that she met Olo, a young man wearing only white linens, with unnaturally white skin, whitish silver hair, and eyes of blue in blue. Nothing for Viela would ever be the same. The two fell deeply in love and spent every possible moment together. She learned of his people—a small community of only several dozen who had lived at the top of the mountain—since before the foundation of Shemar. In the hours they spent together, away from prying eyes at her favourite place, Olo taught Viela many things over the past five years. Just as she taught him. But Olo was always able to “see” so much more than other people. He trained Viela to fight and to fight well. There no weapons with which to train so Olo trained his beloved to be able to protect herself—and kill others if necessary—with her bare hands. Just in case, a time ever came…
16.Drago Zarov was born and raised in a small settlement north of Hollickshore along the western edges of the Valendil Forest in Shemar. His father was a woodcutter, as was his father before, and his father before that. While most members of his small community are considered skilled woodsmen, Drago’s talents at tracking and trapping have become famous throughout the local area. When Drago was 14 years old, his two younger sisters were taken by Gnoll raiders from the Red Eye Tribe. The youth defied the orders of the village elders and headed out by himself in pursuit of the Gnolls. Drago successfully tracked them through the Valendil Forest and when they stopped to make camp, he freed his sisters and returned them safely to his settlement.
Recently, Drago has journeyed to the service center of New Greyhawk to pick up supplies.
17.Jarik Bardel was born and raised in a small mining settlement in the Jagged Edge Mountains south of New Greyhawk. His father worked for the Brigisona Mining Company (silver mine). But Jarik resisted the expectations he too would work underground. Instead, the boy preferred to explore the trails that led through the mountains. Jarik has become a highly-respected hunter, trapper, and tracker.
Recently, Jarik has traveled to New Greyhawk to sell pelts.
18.Haddy Mire was born and raised in New Greyhawk. Or at least that is the one story about himself that never changes in the telling. In fact, Haddy openly boasts that he has never left the walls of New Greyhawk (although this is generally contested). No one knows who his parents were (if even Haddy knows) because his story changes depending on the telling. What is known is that Haddy Mire, dubbed “the Weasel”, is a vagabond who lives somewhere in New Greyhawk and runs a petty-theft ring of young street boys.
19.Vanario Butrez was born and raised in the city of Enoreth on the northcentral coast of Shemar. His father was a butcher but Vanario has always been a dreamer, and he certainly dreamed that his origins were much more grandiose. He came to know the streets and back alleys of Enoreth’s port district and the boy’s quick wits and just as quick tongue (and some say even quicker dagger and rapier) gained him certain advantages. But if Vanario was going to be involved in crime, it wasn’t going to be mere petty crime. Soon the boy was involved in trade (smuggling) and he made impressive amounts of money. And he loved to spend that success and show it off. With money came power, and as he entered manhood, Vanario was already living in an impressive home in the expensive merchant quarter of Enoreth. He lived the life the dressed the part.
But recently some bad business decisions with some bad (and unfortunately very powerful) people have forced Vanario to make a hasty departure from Enoreth. He has journeyed to New Greyhawk with the hopes of paying the Shemarian Wizard Tower, La Mirada del Sur, to have one of their wizards cast a divination for him to gain important information.
20.Ginmill “Ginny” Hairytoes was born and raised in Sunnyshire in the Eastshires of Shemar. His parents owned an impressive farm (for hobbit standards) but Ginmill was content to leave his brother to inherit operations. Instead, Ginmill always claimed to have a bit of the “adventuring spirit” in him that made his ancestors (who traveled with the Party of the Pendant in bygone days) so (in)famous across the Shemarian Shires. “Ginny”, as he is affectionately known by his friends, is proud of the fact that he has visited every town in both the Eastshires and the Westshires.
Recently, Ginmill saw the opportunity to extend his travels outside the Shires and to Shemar proper. He has accompanied his friend, Cornie Mukkins (a wizard of the Shire Wizard Tower—Maskalon Ro’Solehab—and fellow adventurous spirit) from Perryroyal to New Greyhawk to meet with the wizards of La Mirada del Sur. (He might have a crush on her)
22.Fewaneen was born and raised in the Valendil Forest near Hollickshore Shemar. Her mother is a sylph and her father was a local woodsman. Fewaneen was raised by her mother in the forest and avoided contact with the world of humans. Here she learned to honour the living forest and become one of its protectors. Fewaneen has become one of the favourites of the Prince of the Forest—the Unicorn Valendil.
Recently, the young Unicorn has come to Fewaneen and told her that her help is needed. But this aid goes beyond the borders of the forest and into the world of Men. The Unicorn explained that on numerous occasions, the Party of the Pendant has defended the forest. Now it is time to return the favour. The Unicorn has seen the signs. Something terrible is about to befall the nearby mountain town of New Greyhawk. The Prince urged the sylph to travel to New Greyhawk with all haste and do whatever she can to help.
23.Arak Pluma-Blanca was born in the Shemarian city of Port Argos. His father was an officer in the Shemarian army (The Crusaders). While Arak’s elder brothers entered the military, the younger son was sent to the mountain-pass town of New Greyhawk at the age of 7 years old to serve the Faith as a priest of the Gods of War and Magic. As a result, Arak was raised in the Monastery, one of the oldest structures on Shemar and the most sacred site to the religion. He was ordained as a priest at the age of 21 years.
At the end of January in the year 359 SF, the tranquility of the Monastery was broken when the Demon Lord of Gnolls Yeenoghu penetrated its sacred walls in search of the Holy Relics of the Faith. The assault was repelled by the arrival of the Party of the Pendant and in particular, the High Priest Leandro Costales. But the Monastery was seriously damaged in the attack. Arak was in the Monastery at the time. While he did not witness the assault, he played an important role in fighting off Gnolls that accompanied Yeenoghu and fighting to save his fellow priests and monks.
24.Astor Leonattos was born in Hrakoth-on-the-Lake in western Shemar. Astor’s father was a fisherman but he died when the boy was an infant. Astor’s mother worked in the household of the Baron at the Red Haven of Hrakoth. She became a mistress to the Baron and was able to convince the Kaylano aristocrat to pay to have her son sent to the Golden Temple of Desurick in southern Shemar to be trained in the Greek clergy.
In the past two years, Astor has been dispatched by the Golden Temple to serve as a missionary in the town of New Greyhawk. The populace of the town (and the eastern half of the island of Shemar for that matter) largely follows the official religion of Shemar—the Gods of War and Magic and the Greek Faith is seeking to increase its influence.
25.Khazdalin of the Southern Realms was born in the Dwarven city of Eartheart on the edges of the Great Rift in central Quistom. His mother was a priest and his father an officer in the army. Long before his birth, Khazdalin was selected to enter the priesthood of the Morndinsamman.
Upon becoming ordained in the priesthood, Khazdalin travelled the Deep Realms serving his people. Due to his familiarity with the Great Rift (and to limited extent the world above), two years ago he was chosen to serve as an Emissary for the Deep Realms to the human island-kingdom of Shemar. Khazdalin made the impressive journey from the Deep Realms, through the Gnomish Realm of Glitterland, and across the Southern Sea eastward to Shemar. The dwarven priest took up quarter in the mountain town of New Greyhawk.
26.Vintalle Finfirin was born and raised in Alquandola, the capital city of the Realm of the Sun Elves in northern Quistom. His mother was Caras Arda of Alquandola and his father a councillor to the Sun King (Anoraran). Vintalle was trained to be a priest of the Seldarine.
Upon ordination, Vintalle spent some time in his home Kanon of Aqualonde before being dispatched across the seas to the west to serve as an Emissary for the Anoraranian Elves in the human island nation of Shemar.
Recently, he has journeyed with an entourage from the Embassy (on the northern shores of Ticonga Island in the northeastern Shemar) to New Greyhawk to lead negotiations for an Elven-Shemarian trade deal.
27.Danan Ballacum was born and raised in Yavanna, capital city of Kradon. His father was a Clan Chieftain. Danan was sent to study and be trained with the Druids of Kradon at the age of 8. He specialized in diplomacy. Since completing his training and entering the Great Circle of Druids, he has been posted to Etrecht and Scotland.
Recently, Danan has been dispatched to Shemar to serve as a Celtic Ambassador. He has taken up station in New Greyhawk.
28.Rosario Moya was born in Griffondale on the northeastern coasts of Shemar. Her father was a textiles merchant and his middle-class earnings provided him the opportunity to send one of his daughters to La Mirada del Sur, the Shemarian Wizard Tower. Rosario was sent to live and learn in New Greyhawk when she was twelve years old. Rosario came to love her new home and the community it offered. Upon graduation from the School of Alteration, Rosario Moya “The Blue” remained with the Tower of the South and became a professor. She has recently been promoted to Dean of her College.
29.Orius Hasquill was born in Lake Port on the northern shores of Lake Royale in the Wildlands of Shemar. His father was a “Barger” (he piloted barges of goods across the Lake). As a boy, Orius would often accompany his father on the barges and would entertain himself (and others) by performing magic tricks. His talents caught the eye of a traveling wizard from La Mirada del Sur, the Shemarian Wizard Tower. Umio Blafrado “The Dark Brown” was impressed enough that he convinced the boy’s father to allow Orius to become a wizard’s apprentice and in return receive free tuition at the Tower. Orius was sent to New Greyhawk where he enrolled at La Mirada del Sur, specializing in his Master’s school—Earth Elementalism. Since graduating, Orius “the Deep Blue” supplements his income by taking on contracts with various mining companies in New Greyhawk.
30.Matina Miltonov was born in Port Titan, capital city of Shemar. Her father was a tax collector for the local lord (the Marquis of Port Titan). But Matina’s family claims ancestral ties to the Miltonov dynasty, an influential Shemarian family with roots in both the Shemarian Royal Family and the Party of the Pendant. The claimed ties must be relatively weak, however, because Matina’s family struggled to provide a middle-class lifestyle. Her father worked hard all his life and for his efforts, he was able to send Matina to La Mirada del Sur, the Shemarian Wizard Tower. Here, Matina blossomed as a student with a particular affinity and proficiency for the School of Evocation. Since graduation, she has taken on an administrative role at La Mirada del Sur as Chancellor.
31.Cornie Mukkins was born and raised in Perryroyal in the Eastshires of Shemar. Her parents own and run the local tavern in town—The Cream Puffery. Cornie, however, was more interested in another Perryroyal institution—Maskalon Ro’Solehab—the Shire Wizard Tower. While not a particularly impressive tower nor wizard school (by outsiders’ standards), Cornie dreamed of entering and learning magic. She was granted her wish (despite her mother’s concerns) and was schooled as an illusionist.
Recently, Cornie “The Yellow” has been dispatched by her Tower to travel to New Greyhawk to study in the Shemarian Wizard Tower—La Mirada del Sur. She has been accompanied on the journey by her friend Ginny Hairytoes.
32.Tanvemar Sindo was born and raised in Port Ticonga on the coasts of eastern Shemar. His father was an Elven Ambassador to Shemar from Tintinia and his mother was the daughter of the Count of Ticonga. The stigma attached to the birth of the illegitimate child was lessened for the Shemarian Lady by the prestige held by the Elven Ambassador. Tanvemar was accepted into the Count’s family and raised with all the privileges of aristocracy. From an early age, the boy’s Elven heritage emerged in the form of music. Any instrument (or anything capable of making sound) Tanvemar touched came to life in sound. And he was allowed to pursue his talent and passion. At the age of 30 (but only looking 20 due to his racial heritage), Tanvemar’s increasing restlessness led him to leave his home and travel a very short distance the northern shores of Ticonga Island and the Embassy of the Anoraran, Here his mixed-race identity became an advantage and he was trained as a diplomat.
Recently, Tanvemar Sindo has traveled to New Greyhawk where he is helping with negotiations for a Shemarian-Elven trade deal.
33.Verleto Rustar was born and raised in New Greyhawk, Shemar. His father was a soldier in the Shemarian army. It was always expected that Verleto would enter the army as well, and he did so at the age of 18 years old. But his Company recognized Verleto’s real talents and he soon became a military musician. His skills caught the attention of the commanders of the Platinum Legion and Verleto now does double-duty between the regular army and the elite Shemarian Shield.
34.Vabian Fantazella was born and raised in the Shemarian mountain town of New Greyhawk. His father was a miner and his mother hawked goods in the market. Vabian grew up on the streets near the Old Market. From an early age, he was noted for having a pleasant singing voice and a keen ability to play music “by ear”. After only an hour with an instrument, it is said that he can play it with impressive proficiency.
Vabian can regularly be found performing at the various taverns of New Greyhawk.
35.Cadan Moro was born in the town of Sardis in the Lake District of Shemar. His father is unknown and his mother was a domestic servant in the household of an eccentric and wealthy minor aristocrat. Cadan’s mother was also deaf and mute. The boy was raised in “The Mansion”.
From an early age, Cadan was seen as being “different.” He rarely spoke and kept to himself. Yet he was always able to maintain an uncanny communication with his mother. As he grew up, he was often referred to as “weird.” And reports began to emerge of the boy being able to “make things happen” just by thinking about them. By the time he was 15 years old, Cadan was being described as “dangerous.” When his mother died of some sort of “accident” in The Mansion, some sort of “accident” apparently happened to the old aristocrat and Cadan had to depart. Quickly.
Cadan found refuge with a group of outcasts and misfits in the Crystal Caverns, in a spur of the Razorback Mountains just to the east of Sardis. Here, in a leaderless society, he found a community and a home. He also met others, like him, with powers of the mind.
Recently, Cadan woke up on the roof top of The Monastery in New Greyhawk. He literally woke up on the roof of this sacred building this morning with no idea as to how he got here.
36.Megnar Lursena was born and raised in a remote cabin in the mountains near the town of Dragonspeak on the northern coasts of Shemar. He was raised by his father, a trapper of furs. His father told him little of his mother, other than that she died bringing him into the world.
Megnar was huge from birth. As he grew, he remained a larger-than-normal lad. He grew up having little contact with people (other than when his father would take him into town to sell furs and purchase supplies). Instead, his world was the world of animals and nature. But Megnar was no ordinary child. For as long as he can remember, the boy has possessed the power to transform his shape into any living creature he has seen, just by closing his eyes and concentrating.
Last year, Megnar’s father died. With no reason to remain in the Dragonspeak area, the shapeshifter has followed the mountains southward. Recently, he has found himself on the outskirts of the town of New Greyhawk.
It is dawn on June 12th in the year 361 Since Foundation, in the Shemarian mountain-town of New Greyhawk. Despite the early hour, there is considerable activity in the hearth room of Baervan Castle. The Duke of Baervan was awakened in the middle of the night from a nightmarish vision that assaulted his dreams. But he was not alone. Across town, in the Shemarian Wizard Tower known as La Mirada del Sur (“The Tower of the South”), the Chancellor was also awakened by the same disturbing vision. Similarly, on the heights overlooking the walled town, in one of the oldest buildings on Shemar called The Monastery, the High Priest of the Gods of War and Magic was also awakened by the vision. The three members of New Greyhawk’s elite have hurriedly gathered in the Duke’s home to discuss what they have “seen”.
The vision as described by all three individuals is the same. They remember glimpses of some form of evil based out of a series of caverns in the mountains very near, and to the north, of New Greyhawk. They cannot identify anything more of the evil. But it has in its possession some weapon with the power to completely destroy the entire town of New Greyhawk! They don’t know what the weapon is or how it will be used. But they have the overwhelming sense that unless stopped, New Greyhawk will be wiped off the face of the earth at midnight two days from now (less than 48 hours)! The Duke, Chancellor, and High Priest do not know the source of the visions but they assume it must be an ally with information or some divinatory power that has been sent via dreams.
After discussing their common vision, the three influential leaders immediately discuss strategy as to how to save the town. Not surprisingly, the first option is shared by all three—contact the Party of the Pendant, the famous band of international heroes based out of Shemar. The Chancellor of La Mirada del Sur orders a whispering wind spell to be cast by the Tower in order to magically contact Pendant Estate, home to the Party of the Pendant, several days sail to the northeast. But the Governor of Pendant Estate communicates that the Party is presently on campaign. The Party’s current location prevents it being contacted through magical means. With time ticking, it becomes apparent that the Party cannot save New Greyhawk!
With only two days to spare, the town authorities debate evacuating New Greyhawk to save the population. Such a move, however, will assuredly alert the enemy. It needs to be eliminated, along with the threat, or it may be able to move and begin its evil machinations again. If the Party of the Pendant cannot help, perhaps others can. The Duke, Chancellor, and High Priest debate how best to put out a public call for adventurers, from within the walls of New Greyhawk with special talents that might be help.
As the sun is rising, the emergency call goes out…
